Among other things, I'm quite thankful to have my knitting groove back. I missed playing with yarn but have been stuck on 3 WIPs for months. This week I finally got past that point on one of them: I not only got the self-designed thumb gusset to work, but I also just finished the rest of the glove, too! I'm also thankful I didn't poke my eye out while trying to make the thumb with 7" dpns ;)

USA- and non-USA-friends: what about you? What are you thankful for this year? Have any plans for today?

Life
- New hard drive: check!
- Files/photos copied over: check!
(Note to chrome users: when I exported my bookmarks, I don't think it included by "other bookmarks" folder. Beware of this if you ever need to reimport them somewhere else. As it is, I had too many so I don't mind the clean out so much.)
- Programs re-installed: in progress. The important ones like Photoshop and iTunes are installed. OpenOffice and AIM can wait.
- get a bigger external hard drive: in progress

Crafts
- pumpkin #1: I know what I want to carve, made the stencil, and plan on getting the pumpkin this weekend
- pumpkin #2: No idea what I want to do. I keep going back to a Jack Sparrow stencil I found, but I'm wondering if it's juuuuuust beyond my reach. I'm all for challenges, but if I make a cut that takes off his whole nose and results in a toothpick-and-glue mess after hours of scraping and cutting, I'm not going to be too happy. I want something complicated/challenging, but maybe on a smaller scale this year.
- knitting project #1: off the needles and sewn up, but the ends need weaving and I still think it's missing something.
- knitting project #2: stuck on the thumb gusset. The pattern doesn't call for one, but I like the last one I made so much that I want to do this again
- dream up many ideas that I'll probably never have time for: a big CHECK! I've always wanted my own business, especially for custom commissions, and my latest scheme doesn't sound so far-fetched. I have to talk to a few people and find a good, superwash yarn first, but I'm really optimistic about this one. And best of all, the proceeds will go toward charity/research.

Photography
- um... everything. I want to take more photos, I have plenty to edit, and more to learn. My biggest goal is to spend some time with the Autumn trees before they lose all of their leaves + blue skies. I'm obsessed with color in general lately but the skies take the cake.
- Flickr: I got a Flickr account, not sure if I'm going to share it here yet. I needed a place for something more personal and where I can post a whole series of photos for an event, for example, that I wouldn't want to share here because they're not photography-quality photos, just stuff I want documented for posterity.

dA
- message center: falling behind
- deviations: falling behind
- DD suggestions: falling behind
- uploading my own deviations: falling behind (though I still have some more fireworks I can throw up there in the meantime...)

I have a four-day weekend coming up :)
How much can I get done in four days?

Planned Goodbye

I know I'm not the most active user here, but at least this time I'm able to tell you that I won't be around for a while.

My hard drive's failing. While I appreciate that it was nice enough to warn me about this ahead of time, it still shouldn't be happening on a computer that's less than 1 year old and doesn't take much abuse. I'm running backups now, then cleaning/reseating the drive and running a disk check after work, but I don't have much hope for it. It hasn't been great for a while and there was a month where it frequently ran automatic disk checks because of problems.

No idea how long it'll take to get a replacement.

All I can do right now is leave you with an overused famous quote:
I'll be back.

...how many more can you stand? I've got almost 50 (out of 200+ photos) that I would love to share.

You might also notice my indecisiveness: I keep changing the titles, updated the 6 files I already posted to include a signature, and moved them all from my general Fire gallery to their own: Star-Spangled 2009. I think I'm really done this time with the editing and gallery moving, but I'll still update the titles to replace the generic ones when I'm feeling creative (or get a good suggestion ;)).

Also coming up: photos from a weekend trip. Among them are ones taken at Grounds for Sculpture. If you're ever anywhere near this place I highly recommend it. Even if the art isn't your cup of tea, the grounds themselves are absolutely stunning. I want to do some more editing on these photos before posting them (tangent: Photoshop's levels feature is ridiculously fun to use. I'm not up to curves yet, but just manually adjusting the levels is giving me incredibly vivid colors! Probably too vivid, lol, but I'll tone it down once the newness wears off).

And knits! Sadly, I seriously neglected yarn this summer; it was just too hot. Now that the colder weather is coming in and my closet is lacking in warm wool, I'm regretting it. I plan on returning to this in the near future after the photos are done.

In other news, I have the day off tomorrow! :boogie: Now that I'm out of school, Labor Day no longer signals the end of summer but instead gives me my first day off in months. Whew! Hope everyone else in the U.S. is enjoying the holiday =D
